You don’t always get to choose when you move, and these times of COVID-19 are some of the most uncertain in recent history—adding more stress to what’s already a stressful experience for many families. If you’re having to relocate your household or business during this unprecedented period, it’s critical to work with Lehigh Valley movers who are taking every necessary precaution.
What We’re Doing to Protect You
Although our Lehigh Valley moving company has obviously never experienced a global pandemic like COVID-19, you can trust that we’re doing everything we can to keep our employees and our customers safe. Our special health and safety measures include two key aspects: virtual moving quotes and moving-day precautions.
Virtual Moving Quotes
Instead of an in-person moving survey where we send a staff member to your Lehigh Valley home, we are still offering complete inventories and relocation consultations over the internet. Using Zoom, Google Duo, FaceTime, or other video conferencing platforms, we can take stock of your move 100% remotely. After you’ve shown us all of the rooms and items to be moved, we will send your moving quote by email.
Of course, we can’t actually move your home remotely—but we can make every effort to protect your property and your health. These extra precautions include:
• Daily Temperature Monitoring
• Ongoing Health Checks for All Office and Field Staff
• Face Masks are Provided to Crews
• Proper Social Distancing While Packing, Moving, and Loading
• Regular Cleaning and Sanitizing of All Moving Equipment and Vehicles
Through these additional measures—both before and during your move—we’re taking your health and safety very seriously. If you have questions or concerns about our COVID-19 response at any point of your move, you can call your move coordinator and we will address them immediately.
What You Can Do to Protect Yourself
In addition to the precautions we’re taking at O’Brien’s Moving and Storage, we want to emphasize some steps that you can take to protect yourself. Unfortunately, many predatory moving companies are taking advantage of these uncertain times to cheat their customers—and we don’t want that to happen to you! Summer is already the moving industry’s busiest season and thus already rife with shady movers, but COVID-19 is making it even easier for unsavory characters to cheat people and get away with it.
The #1 way to avoid scams is to hire a properly licensed and legal mover. This is very easy to check by asking for the company’s Public Utility Number (required for all movers in Pennsylvania) and, in case of an interstate move, the company’s Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) number. We’ll save you the time by telling you upfront that O’Brien’s PUC is PA-94076 and our ICC is MC 14735.
Real movers will have these licensing numbers, will own their own moving trucks, and will employ their own moving crews. They’ll often be associated with a major moving line as well. For instance, we’re certified Allied movers.
Once you’ve found a legal mover, don’t forget to ask about their health and safety measures! Proper licensing doesn’t necessarily ensure that your moving company is taking the right precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
